John R. North (MA, PhD) - Director
As a director of ARC, Dr. North adds a broad perspective and regulatory experience to the Company. He has more than 23 years experience in executive and management functions in the Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical and Medical Diagnostics industries in Europe, USA and Canada. Dr. North has also been directly involved in numerous drug regulatory filings, including 2 NDAs as well as several sNDAs and INDs.
Dr. North is President, Chief Executive Officer & Director of Inimex Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately held biopharmaceutical company based in Vancouver, BC. He previously served as Chief Scientific Officer and Senior Vice President, Scientific Affairs of QLT, Inc., one of North America's most successful biotechnology companies. Prior to joining QLT, he spent 12 years with various UK and US-based subsiduaries within the Beaufour-Ipsen Group, most recently as Head of Exploratory Development at Ipsen International in the UK. Dr. North was previously Managing Director of Monotech Laboratories Ltd. and a biotechnology consultant at PA Technology Ltd. in Cambridge, UK.
Dr. North received a PhD in Immunology and an MA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, England, followed by post-doctoral research at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research in London. He was a Special Fellow of the Leukemia Society of America at the University of California and the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and headed a research team in Virology and Immunology at the University of Bristol Medical School, UK. He is the author of numerous scientific publications and co-inventor on patents covering a wide range of medical inventions.
Chris Springate, PhD (Pharm), RPh - President and Chief Executive Officer
President and Chief Executive Officer, Director and a Co-Founder of the Company, Dr. Springate's corporate experience includes financing, intellectual property and patent issues, coordinating research collaborations, participation in research projects, product development and regulatory issues. He has been key in building ARC's Board of Directors, Scientific Advisory Board and Management Team. Dr. Springate is a co-inventor of several patent applications for the use of therapeutics against surgical adhesions. He has successfully negotiated collaborative research and two license agreements with UBC for anti-inflammatory agents against surgical adhesions. Dr. Springate has raised over CAD 1 million through private placements and has written industrial research grants awarding greater than CAD 400,000 to the Company. Dr. Springate gained industrial research and development experience before founding ARC through his involvement in the development and manufacture of novel drug loaded devices and polymeric formulations at Angiotech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Three of the Preclinical and Phase I formulations that he worked with at Angiotech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. are currently undergoing clinical evaluation. Dr. Springate is a practicing Pharmacist and with a PhD (Pharm) in Pharmaceutics & Biopharmaceutics, has an extensive knowledge of drugs and drug loaded devices.
Bruce Hay, CA - Chief Financial Officer
As CFO, Mr. Hay has been instrumental in raising greater than CAD 3 million through private financings for ARC Pharmaceuticals Inc.
Mr. Hay co-founded ImmGenics Pharmaceuticals Inc. in 1993 and as past Chief Financial Officer raised ImmGenics' initial seed capital of CAD 1 million and subsequently an additional CAD 1 million. In 1998 he assisted in additional financings of CAD 13 million. Mr Hay assisted in the sale of ImmGenics in 2000 to Abgenix, Inc. for approximately CAD 110 million. Mr. Hay was a director of QLT Phototherapeutics Inc. from 1984 to 1988 and was instrumental in raising their first seed capital of CAD 750,000. He received a BComm from UBC and articled with Winspear, Higgins, Stevenson & Doane, which subsequently merged with Deloitte & Touche. Mr. Hay received his CA from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia and was a manager with Coopers & Lybrand, principal in Hay and Company, and a partner in Hay & Watson.
